“I should go.” Matilda rose unwillingly, dressing in a hurry.
In a flood of realization, she knew she could never love Marc the way he needed her to. She owed him an explanation, though what could she say? She kissed Wil quickly, but he held her close to his naked body, reluctant to let go.
“Come back when you can, please?” Desperation tinged his voice. He never begged for anything from anyone, particularly not women. They begged him.
“I will, I promise.” Like Cinderella leaving the ball, she ran from the room before she was tempted to stay forever.
